Formed in 1994, Southern CA’s Fearless Records was built on a punk-rock foundation, fueled by a furious passion for music and the drive to help build the careers of up-and-coming artists. The label carved out its corner by launching the careers of acts like The Plain White T’s, At The Drive-In, The Aquabats! and Sugarcult, and has since built an ever-growing global following of dedicated music fans. The current roster includes some of the genre’s most respected acts, such as August Burns Red, Mayday Parade, Blessthefall, Motionless In White and certified Gold artist Pierce The Veil. The label is also a home to an eclectic collection of on-the-verge artists including Real Friends, Tonight Alive, I Prevail, As It Is, and The Summer Set, as well as the successful covers compilation series Punk Goes... which has featured such notable acts as All Time Low, A Day To Remember, We Came As Romans, Issues, New Found Glory and Of Mice & Men. This year, Fearless Records has five bands on the Vans Warped Tour. We took the time to catch I Prevail, Sworn In, Movements, The White Noise, and Blessthefall. I PREVAIL
New Album: Lifelines (OUT NOW)
Watch This:
Certain moments in life change everything. The trajectory splinters, and there’s no turning back. I Prevail—Brian Burkheiser [clean vocals], Eric Vanlerberghe [harsh vocals], Steve Menoian [guitar], Dylan Bowman [rhythm guitar] –explore this phenomenon within the title of their full-length debut, Lifelines [Fearless Records]. I Prevail are no strangers to this experience. After the release of the band’s 2014 debut EP, Heart vs. Mind, nothing would ever be the same. The EP sold over 100,000 copies as the Detroit band toured with the likes of Hollywood Undead and Pierce the Veil. Meanwhile, the group’s cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” sold 500,000 plus singles, generated over 50 million views on YouTube and 30 million-plus Spotify streams (earning them a gold plaque). The band was nominated for “Breakthrough Band” at the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards and garnered features from Billboard, Detroit Free Press, AXS, Loudwire, Kerrang, Alternative Press, Rock Sound and many more. Everything fell into place setting the stage perfectly for their debut full-length, Lifelines. In early 2016, the boys retreated to Wall of Sound Studios in the small and secluded town of Riley, Michigan to work with trusted producers B.J. Perry and John Pregler. With nearly two years on the road under their belt, the group had fully cemented their style, merging entrancing hooks and powerful music breakdowns. Lifelines debuted at #1 on the Alternative, Hard Music, and Rock charts, #9 Top Album, and #15 on the Billboard Top 200, with Alternative Press naming Lifelines one of the Best Debut albums of 2016. The band’s singles “Stuck in Your Head,” “Scars,” and now “Alone” have all reached #1 on SiriusXM Octane Radio.
SWORN IN
New Album: ALL SMILES (OUT NOW)
Watch This:
Think of that black pointy smirk on Eric Draven’s face in The Crow or Heath Ledger’s immortal scarred and blood-stained visage as The Joker. The sneer can reflect a marvelous malevolence like an image turned upside down in a hall of mirrors. That brings us to Sworn In’s aptly titled third full-length album and first for Fearless Records, ALL SMILES. It serves as the apex of the group’s indefinable assault thus far, gleefully stitching together a ragdoll of heavy metal, hardcore, goth, punk, and alternative best described as Slipknot covering The Black Parade. The Illinois quartet—Tyler Dennen [vocals], Chris George [drums], Eugene Kamlyuk [guitar, backing vocals], and Derek Bolman [bass]—emerged from a two-year period of darkness with a blackened eleven-song grin with their new album ALL SMILES.
MOVEMENTS
New Album: Outgrown Things EP (OUT NOW)
Watch This:
Southern California 4-piece, Movements, brings a nostalgic yet refreshing touch to today’s post-hardcore / emo revival. Fronted by charismatic lead singer Patrick Miranda, Movements delivers honest and engaging lyrics driven by aggressive and melodic instrumentals from Spencer York (Drums), Austin Cressey (Bass), and Ira George (Guitar). This high-energy group introduced themselves in 2016 with an extremely emotional debut EP titled Outgrown Things.
THE WHITE NOISE
New Album: AM/PM (OUT NOW)
Watch This:
The White Noise continually flip the script. The Southern California quintet -Shawn Walker [vocals], David Southern [bass, vocals], Josh "KJ" Strock [guitar], Bailey Crego [guitar], and Tommy West [drums]- infuse aggressive rock with cinematic expanse and hardcore punk urgency, striking an elusive middle ground between influences as diverse as Underoath, Brand New, and Nine Inch Nails. Since their formal emergence in 2015, The White Noise has made waves. Alternative Press hailed their Aren't You Glad? EP among "The 12 Best EPS of 2016" and claimed, "The LA group have left an undeniable mark on the scene with the first six songs of their career." Further acclaim came from New Noise Magazine and more as the band incinerated stages on tour with I Prevail, Dance Gavin Dance, and many others. Meanwhile, "Picture Day" has clocked over 683K Spotify streams and 512K YouTube views. On their 2017 full-length debut album AM/PM, produced by Drew Fulk (Motionless In White, Crown The Empire), the group boldly bob and weave past convention and emerge with an infectious and inimitable body of work representative of their penchant for unpredictability.
