The Malibu native singer-songwriter, Kylie Hughes, has built an impressive local following in California; receiving acclaim with television appearances and named one of the top 100 unsigned artists by Music Connection. All of this has caused quite the stir across the country. Her debut self-titled album dropped in May, and the honest twelve track collection is a look into Hughes' life and experiences. This album is a modern day Avril Lavigne-esque emotion roller coaster dips and twists through different music styles seamlessly. The opening track “Heat” is a passionate, pop rock opener ahead of the more laid-back “Gotta Get Out”. This is followed by the fantastically infectious “Leave It Alone”; and the track “I Can't Believe We’re In Love” takes over with its tranquil guitars and touching vocals, as if to keep you guessing what kind of genre Hughes is looking to grasp. The album continues through the twists and turns of life and musical stylings; with breathtaking composition of instrumentation and the beautiful vocals that would be expected from a talented, beach-loving, California musician. The sky’s the limit with such diverse talent shown in a full-length debut. Hughes has delivered a generously diverse and skillful collection of pop, country, folk, and rock here that remains warm and honest from the first chord to the final fade of vocals and guitar.
