New Politics and Bikini Trill at The Blind Tiger in Greensboro

New Politics came through Greensboro, NC to perform at The Blind Tiger, and we were there to cover it!

Kicking things off first was surf-pop rockers “Bikini Trill”. Relatively new to the scene, this is Bikini Trill’s first ever East Coast tour, and they came to leave an impression. With hyperactive members and catchy lead vocals, it is not hard to see why these two bands joined forces to bring their energy to the stage together. Bikini Trill recently put out their first EP, entitled “Wassup, We Good?”, and managed to bring the surf-inspired bass grooves to the stage with ease.

Our main act of the night was New Politics, a pop-rock group that has been around for quite some time. Originally gaining traction from their first single, “Yeah Yeah Yeah”, the group has managed to steadily grow over the years with help from singles such as “One of Us” and “Color Green”. After forming in Denmark, the group moved to the United States in 2009 where they joined forces with drummer Louis Vecchio to work on their second album, “A Bad Girl in Harlem”, which features the group’s breakout hit, “Harlem”. Following the release of their sophomore album, the trio began to tour as an opening act for groups such as “Fall Out Boy”, “Paramore”, and “Pink”.

The group is also well known for their wild and excitable performance, from guitarist Soren Hansen’s loud yet quality vocals to lead singer David Boyd’s exciting and flashy dance moves. This is a band that has found their niche audience and managed to expand that in an effort to create a movement of something larger, in an effort to blur the lines between pop and rock genres. From pop-punk anthems such as “Yeah Yeah Yeah”, to the slower piano influenced “One of Us”, this a group that changes musical styles in a way that is not jarring whatsoever, and that is one of the most impressive aspects of the trio.
