The Spooky (Sunset) Strip LIVE! with Steel Panther
Halloween came early in Raleigh with a little 80's hair metal adult flare. Steel Panther brought their Sunset Strip Live tour with a 'spooky' twist to The Ritz.
Steel Panther is one of the best 80's hair metal/glam metal parody/cover bands out there right now and they fully embrace the look and the stage presence that you would have expected to see back in its hay day. Their on stage personas Michael Starr (vocals), Stix Zadinia (drums), Lexxi Foxx (bass), and Satchel (guitar); fully exemplify the raunchy and over the top rockstar personalities that could have been seen back in the day.
Their on stage performance was full of choreographed movements and a lot of dumb jokes. Every now and then they'd comment that someone needed to show off their boobs and some brave souls would actually do it! Something I would fully expect to have happened at an actual concert in the 80s. Now being a Halloween themed show, i've got to say that there was not much to it other than painted faces and a lot of Halloween related jokes. The fact that there were so many Halloween jokes actually became a joke in itself throughout the night. There was also a costume contest that featured some of the more busty women in the 18+ crowd.
Other than jokes and asking for boob flashes, the group performed a mix of various 80s classic hits and some original (very vulgar and raunchy) songs. This was probably one of the more interesting but enjoyable shows that I have been to recently and I definitely look forward to the next time that Steel Panther come through town.
