Judah & The Lion is a folk-rock/pop sensation formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2011. Originally a foursome, the now trio is on tour in support of their deluxe album, “Folk Hop N’ Roll”. The band caught major airplay after the release of their single “Take It All Back” in 2016, and became an opening act for alternative-giants Twenty One Pilots. Both of these drastically increased the crowds the band was playing for, and the group quickly went from playing bars and small clubs to playing giant theatres and elegant music venues across the world.

Between the band’s banjo and mandolin player, they manage to create a frenzy of stringed instruments and yet blend them together in a way that flows in classic bluegrass fashion. What sets Judah apart however, are their clear “hip-hop” and “rock and roll” influences. Instead of sticking to their roots and playing classic country and bluegrass style, they manage to incorporate some of the best elements of all of these styles. A kicking bassline, mixed with samples and drums providing by a touring drummer, as well as the banjo and mandolin playing they are known for, Judah & The Lion manages to blend all of these elements supremely.

Judah & The Lion are known for their live shows, and the hectic playing that comes along with them. Between frontman Judah Akers’ aggressive yet playful vocals, and Nate Zuercher’s spin moves while still holding down the banjo groove, you can tell this is a band with lots of experience under the belt. At the same time, the band manages to not take themselves to seriously, with lots of interaction with the audience and even performing covers that nobody could see coming, such as Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”. This is a show that blends genres new and old, and does it in such a jaw dropping way.
