We are just a couple weeks away from the 2018 Riot Fest, and with headlining acts like Blink-182, Beck, Blondie, Incubus, and the one and only Jerry Lee Lewis; it is set to be an unforgettable weekend.
The mid-September festival has because a staple int he Chicago punk rock community but also plays host to a very diverse collection of music from indie, rap, reggae, rock, and punk.
This year's first wave lineup announcement features a very diverse lineup just in the headliners alone. That doesn't even include a yet to be announced second wave of artists that should include one additional headlining act.
Some notable acts that will be hitting the five stage festival in Douglas Park that we are excited about seeing are The Wonder Years, The Fever 333, The Front Bottoms, The Audition, and so many more. I am pretty sure anyone can go through this lineup and find at least one artist they'd be excited to see.
One really awesome part about Riot Fest and it taking place in the North Lawndale area at Douglas Park, that sits on the southwestern side of Chicago, is that they have a great initiative to help revitalize the area and keep the park in good condition. Every year, Riot Fest in association with the, Riot Fest Foundation, invites volunteers to help out on three separate days prior to the festival by mulching trees, picking up trash, pulling weeds, planting flowers, and more. In return those that help out receive a ticket to one day of the festival for each day they volunteer.
Also, recent rumors have surfaced that Warped Tour may be making its comeback at the 2019 Riot Fest in Chicago. In whatever form that happens, having the Warped Tour name tied to this weekend festival is sure to bring out more fans. And it makes sense to. Why not combine one of the most popular punk rock weekend festivals with the most popular and longest running punk rock touring festival. With Kevin Lyman and his team helping out, there is sure to be a boost of buzz and excitement around it, if it actually does end up happening.
This festival is sure to be a fun one again this year, and we cannot wait to see everyone in Chicago.
