On hot and muggy evening in Raleigh, Vampire Weekend brought their massive 29 song set to the stage, leaving everyone drenched in sweat and smiles by the end of it.

It has been quite a long time since Vampire Weekend has put out a new album, six years actually, and their latest release Father of the Bride (released May 3, 2019) is of course the namesake of their current run of tour dates.

With a stop in Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina had double the chances to enjoy the massive collection of songs that Vampire Weekend presented. In Raleigh, it was a beautiful yet hot evening, but that did not stop the crowds from pouring into the downtown amphitheater venue. While the band has sort of gone beneath the radar in past years, they have still managed to keep themselves relevant with their major hits from about 10 years ago. And even the new songs off their latest album seemed to have an echo from everyone singing along to them.

A buzzing crowd of course turned into a roaring mass when the big hits like “A-Punk" and “Oxford Comma” were played. But it was still very evident that the fans were just happy to have new music again as there was always excitement no matter what song was being played; even the few cover songs that they performed were a nice treat.

The band performed near flawlessly through a full 2 hours, with vocalist Ezra Koenig leading the way with his recognizable voice and obvious charisma at center stage. The rest of the band performed their parts to a T; Guitarist Brian Robert Jones rocked his many solos, Chris Baio on bass skipped and jammed his way back and forth on stage, and the back line of keys and percussion really rounded out the full sound.

The smiles and expressions of the band on stage translated to smiles, dancing, and pure enjoyment from the crowd in front of them. While the concert began at sunset, it was dark and much cooler by the end of it and the crowds left anticipating the next time Vampire Weekend would be in town (hopefully not too long).
