Five years ago, thousands of emo/alternative music fans were shocked by the news that one of the biggest bands of the genre would be calling it quits. Anberlin had been a staple in most iPods and mix-CDs; with songs like "Feels Good Drag" and "Impossible" leading the way.
The band first formed in 2002, but decided to disband in 2014. Like many bands these days though, the breakup didn't last and in 2018 Anberlin began playing shows again. Even after five years of nothing new and quiet social media accounts, the band still managed to have a nearly sold out show in Raleigh last week when they brought their current tour with I The Mighty to The Ritz.
The show was like a room full of people just letting out all their excitement about the band that had built up over the past five years, and bands performance on stage was met with roaring chants and singing from the crowd.
While this tour and seeing Anberlin on stage together is something many people would love to see again, unfortunately it is uncertain if Anberlin will continue on past this Summer. Vocalist Stephen Christian has said that the tour is less of a reunion and more of a reconciliation for the band, with nothing really planned past after the tour.
After the warm welcome back that they have seen in every city they've visited thus far, let's all hope that there is more Anberlin in the future!
