Run The World with Run The Jewels at The Ritz

As I have stated before, I am not the type of person you would picture to be into Hip Hop music. The majority of music that we cover here is rock and metal, but I have found a lot of enjoyment in covering hip hop shows. The energy and art put forth on stage is next level, so when I heard that Killer Mike and El-P were coming through Raleigh for Run The Jewels’ Run The World Tour, I had to get in on this one. With support from Cuz, Nick Hook, Gangsta Boo, and The Gaslamp Killer; this show was sold out months in advance. Fans were lined up in the gloomy weather after a very controversial Presidential inauguration, and you could say that it was a good chance to just escape and forget what was going on in the world. We start our night with Nick Hook spinnin’ the records and getting everyone hyped. The Atlanta rapper, Cuz, hit the stage for a quick 15 minute set and then invited Gangsta Boo to start her set. The former Three 6 Mafia artist brought her own music and rocked the house.

With no time between sets at all, The Gaslamp Killer took over the stage and rocked the stage with his big hair and killer music.

As the stage lights dim and the crowd comes to a roar, two figures emerge from side stage to Queen’s “We Are The Champions.” The lights come on all at once to reveal the main men of the night. El-P and Killer Mike walked to the respective microphones, all smiles, and greeted the crowd. As the crowd responded, Run The Jewels went right into “Talk To Me” off of their newest album, RTJ3. They performed songs off of all three of their albums and even some songs from solo projects.

With one of the largest turn-outs that I have seen at The Ritz, Run The Jewels and all the other amazing artists, put on an absolutely incredible show.
