Emarosa Headlining North America

Emarosa is a band that I have seen many times over the years. From tiny 200 capacity venues, arena style venues, and the Vans Warped Tour stage on multiple occasions; they have never seemed to disappoint. So why should that be any different for their current headlining tour with A Lot Like Birds and Jule Vera? Well, if you were wondering, it wasn't any different. For a Tuesday night show the turnout was not a sell out crowd, but that made for a very intimate show. Opening support, Jule Vera, is a band that gained a popularity this summer on the Vans Warped Tour. They are a young band with a lot of potential, and who can deny that playing acoustic shows at pizza restaurants around the country is not a completely awesome thing! The crowd began to grow and inch closer to the stage throughout their set. By the time A Lot Like Birds started their sound check, there was no one sitting in any of the chairs scattered throughout the venue.

In direct support of Emarosa was A Lot Like Birds, a band that I have heard a lot of good things about, but have never had the opportunity to see live. Their energetic and well put together set was just what the crowd needed to get the heart rate up with some dancing and jumping around. A Lot Like Birds is one of those bands that has hovered right under the radar for a while, and they definitely deserve some spotlight.

While the rest of the show, including the local bands, was great; the real reason everyone was there was to see Emarosa. The band is known for their catchy hooks and the incredible vocal talent of vocalist Bradley Walden. They're also known for their over the top energy on stage. Walden often hangs from rafters and crowd surfs throughout the show, while the rest of the band tears it up on stage with their instruments. This particular show was one of the calmer sets that I have seen from them. The band did their normal jumping and moving around, but Walden kept it pretty tame; other than a few back flips on the stage. He jumped off the stage and stood in the middle of the crowd for a couple songs and danced his heart out on stage during the rest of the set.

The band played a great cover of Paramore's "Decode" mixed into the songs from the most recent albums Versus and 131. A part of me wishes they would play music from albums before Walden joined the band, but the music is still amazing and it is a completely different era for the band.
