The year was 2007; I was having a typical boring afternoon flipping through the television channels with nothing else better to do. A random music channel I had never seen before caught my eye and there I sat watch a rock power hour of music videos. Some of my favorite bands were played and then the video for “Sorry You're Not A Winner” came on by four gents from the UK, in a band called Enter Shikari. And the rest is history.
Fast forward just over 10 years later; and while the band’s sound has matured and changed into something a little harder to pinpoint a genre for, they still seem to grasp onto those long time fans, myself included.
Enter Shikari is a band that has struggled to create a consistent following in the US. Other photos of their shows in the states show massive crowds while the venue in Carrboro NC was casually and very comfortably half filled, despite it being a Friday night. It really is a shame, because I can't remember the last concert where I was so entranced in the bands and the music that I never stopped to think “gosh what time is it.” But that's what happened this past Friday night.
The supporting bands, Milk Teeth and Single Mothers, were fun with some awesome punk vibes; which is a great fit to open for a band like Enter Shikari, with their punk origins turned more electronic dance rock blend. Enter Shikari has such an interesting sound and aesthetic, it is hard not to get completely wrapped up in classics songs like “Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour…” followed immediately by a more drum and bass/hardstyle track like “Rabble Rouser”.

There really is something for everyone to like about Enter Shikari and their live gigs take their music to a complete other level.
