Troye Sivan in Charlotte, NC

Opening for Troye Sivan was Kim Petras, a new-age pop star who has been steadily dropping singles in anticipation of her debut album. With nothing but a DJ backing her, Kim Petras came out and proved she had what it takes to be a pop sensation in the new-age, confidence and tight vocals. With a simple stage setup, Kim came to impress based on performance alone, and a stage presence that was exciting and engaging for longtime fans as well as people who may have never experienced her music before.

With the main act of the night being Troye Sivan,  I was curious to see how he would take the stage and make the sounds of his latest album, “Bloom” come to life. Troye Sivan is a rare but shining example of someone who quickly thrust himself into the pop-genre with no intent of holding back, and it has worked extremely well for him. He has managed to secure his image as a new-age pop icon within a matter of years and that on its own is extremely impressive.

In typical pop sensation fashion, Troye Sivan emerged on stage by a rising platform met with thousands of screaming fans. It felt like a scene of a movie, and that’s exactly what was expected out of Troye’s performance. Similar to a theatrical performance, Troye Sivan’s live show was split into “Acts”, in a way that was meant to connect with the fans and tell a story. While he’s not the first to do this, he is absolutely a shining example of turning a concert into more of an experience than simply live music.

Troye managed to fill these “Acts” with songs old and new, and create something that needs to be seen to believe. With an incredible live performance that is on par with pop legends, Troye Sivan has created an experience that is a shining example of a boundary-pushing performance. This is a show that demands to be seen by fans of both Troye and the pop genre.
