When Youngsters Meet Legends; Radkey Opening up for Descendents in Raleigh
What do you get when you put together some young rockers with some "old fart" veterans of punk rock? Well, you get the Descendents on tour with Radkey thrown into the mix; and I don't think anyone has a problem with that.
This weekend, Descendents brought their summer headlining tour through Raleigh and along with them the young punk rockers, Radkey, joined in on the fun. Brothers Dee, Isaiah, and Solomon Radke may be in a family band and when you think family bands you think Hansons, the Jacksons, or the Partridge family. However, you won't find these brothers following any trends or stereotypes. Radkey’s sound is much more influenced by those unruly punk and grunge rock bands your parents hated you listening to. Their most recent full-length release Delicious Rock Noise was released via Another Century Records in 2016 and they've toured and played with countless legendary bands; including the band they're currently sharing the stage with, Descendents. They've also played many noteworthy festivals and the youngest of the three is just barely of legal drinking age!
Nearly 30 years before Radkey was a band, way before the three brothers even considered music as a career, Descendents formed as a band way back in 1977 and it's incredible that the band is still active and putting on the incredible and energetic show that they put on each night on tour. Equally amazing is how the current roster of band members has remained the same for the majority of that time.
The excitement and energy amongst the nearly sold-out crowd in Raleigh was insane. There was a huge age range for this show, with some probably in their 60's and little one's not even in double digits; all crowdsurfing, moshing, and singing along to their favorite songs.
