Hozier hit the stage tonight at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium in downtown Raleigh, supported by quickly up and coming English singer-songwriter Jade Bird.

The opening act, Jade Bird, performed a full set of songs from her upcoming self-titled debut full length album. Songs like "Lottery" and "Uh Huh", while previously released as singles or as part of an EP would be well known to fans, but with a standing ovation to close out her set, it was clear that Bird gained thousands of new fans. Some in Raleigh may already be familiar with the London-based musician after she came to the North Carolina Art Museum as part of the Summer concert series with First Aid Kit in 2018, and it won't be long before she will be back in the area with Father John Misty later this year.

What stands out about Jade Bird the most is that while her recorded music has her backed by a full band, her live performance are (from my two experiences so far) are completely solo and acoustic, really bringing the power of her voice and the talent she possesses as a musician and songwriter.

As droves of fans fled from their seats to meet Jade Bird in the lobby of the venue, the stage was being set for the main event. Being a tour in direct support of his newest album Wasteland, Baby!, Hozier opened his set with a few new songs, "Would That I", "Dinner & Diatribes", and “Nina Cried Power”, before diving into the rest of his discography. The Irish singer-songwriter was joined on stage by 7 others that would rotate on their respective instruments from song to song, fully showing the talent of everyone on stage that Hozier surrounds himself with to bring together the magnificent and immersive show that took place.

Many may only recognize Hozier from his past hit "Take Me To Church", but everyone in attendance knew that he was so much more than that one hit song and were all in for singing along to every song new and old.

Hozier played all of his hits, including “Someone New”, “Jackie and Wilson”, and "Take Me To Church"; and the crowd even turned the tables on him to sing 'Happy Birthday' to him, in honor of his upcoming birthday before closing his set with an encore of "Work Song" and a solo rendition of “Cherry Wine”. Throughout the extensive set, Hozier kept a smile on his face as he looked out into the crowd that was so involved in his music. The joy and emotion that can be seen as he performs adds so much to the experience by those in attendance. Raleigh definitely turned out to show their love for Hozier and I hope to see him back in town very soon for another incredible performance.
