This week Blue October made an appearance in Raleigh NC on The King Tour that rocked a near sell out crowd at the Lincoln Theatre, despite it being a big sports night in Raleigh with game 7 for the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Fans were lined up hours before the show and even though the Texas rock band isn't as much of a household name as they once were, their following has stuck around through the years.
Band members; Justin Furstenfeld – vocals/guitar, Ryan Delahoussaye – violin/guitar/piano, Matt Noveskey – bass, Will Knaak - guitar, and Jeremy Furstenfeld – drums took to the stage as the crowd roared in excitement. From the opening song, to the very last note, it was apparent that Justin and company came to give show that felt intimate their hearts out. Blue October has made themselves known as a ‘from the heart and soul performing band.’
Frontman, Justin Furstenfeld, brings so much heart and passion to the stage that it adds another element to their live performance. To just listen to his voice belting our the lyrics he's written is one thing, but a frontman that moves about the stage, interacting with fans and really putting on a show makes feel so much more intimate. The obvious love their music is evident on stage as it is throughout the crowd as fans sing back at the band on stage. As mentioned before, Blue October haven't been a household name in a while; they had a hit back in in 2006 with "Hate Me" and really had international attention from that album Foiled.
"Hate Me" was part of an multi-song acoustic medley by Furstenfeld to begin the band's encore and was certainly one of the highlights of the night. To close out the night, the band performed the title track off their most recent album "I Hope You're Happy" and just like that, the nearly 20-song set was over and truly something to experience.
If have the chance to catch Blue October as they roll into town, or nearby, take the night off and buy yourself some tickets to an wonderful rock show. You can check out their site here and find out more about the band and their upcoming tour dates and new music blueoctober.com
